THE SPHINX

The Great Sphinx of Giza is an iconic limestone statue located on the Giza Plateau near Cairo, Egypt. It is one of the most renowned monuments of ancient Egypt and one of the largest and oldest statues in the world, believed to have been constructed around 2500 BCE during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre. The Sphinx combines a lion's body with a human head, thought to represent Khafre himself, symbolizing strength, wisdom, and royal power.

The Sphinx measures approximately 240 feet (73 meters) in length and 66 feet (20 meters) in height. Carved directly from the bedrock, it guards the front of Khafre's pyramid, one of the three major pyramids at Giza. The statue's enigmatic face, though weathered by millennia of exposure to the elements, still conveys a sense of majesty and serenity.
